Toggle clamp sizes The size of a toggle clamp can be measured by its clamping capacities. This will vary, depending on the type of clamp you are using.

Horizontal toggle clamp

Horizontal toggle clamp A horizontal toggle clamp has a clamping plate which faces downwards, and pushes down on a workpiece to hold it in place. This type of clamp can be measured by its clamping height, which indicates the distance between the clamping plate in its highest position and the surface of the work bench that it is bolted to.
Horizontal toggle clamp faces downwards The maximum opening between the clamping plate and the work surface is important to know, as it determines what size workpiece the clamp is capable of holding.
Horizontal toggle clamp clamping height A horizontal toggle clamp is available with the following clamping heights:

20mm (0.75″ approx.)

40mm (1.5″ approx.)

60mm (2.5″ approx.)

Push / pull toggle clamp

Vertical toggle clamp A push / pull toggle clamp has a clamping plate which faces forwards, and pushes vertically against a workpiece. The size of this type of clamp can also be determined by its clamping height, which is the distance of the clamping plate from the surface of the work bench it is bolted to. This information indicates the height at which the plate will engage with the edge of a workpiece.
Vertical toggle clamp throat depth A push / pull toggle clamp is available with the following clamping heights:

10mm (0.5″ approx.)

16mm (0.5″ approx.)

25mm (1″ approx.)
