In terms of size, rack clamps can be separated into two categories – standard rack clamps and bar rack clamps. Standard rack clamps refer to types with frames that extend into the fixed jaw, in a J shape.
Many different sizes are available, each with varied capabilities. Size is always an important factor to consider when using a rack clamp, to ensure it is large enough for a particular workpiece.
When thinking about size, there are two key features to consider.
The first is the jaw opening, which indicates the capacity of the jaws in terms of how far the mouth can open. The second is throat depth – how deep the jaws of the clamp are – which is measured by the distance from the top edge of the jaws to the side of the frame.
There are five different models in each category, each with different clamping capacities.
These models are standard-duty, standard-duty long reach, medium-duty, medium-duty long reach, and heavy-duty.
