	Can you reuse an old hand saw blade?

			If your saw hasn’t been specially hardened, you can usually resharpen and reset the teeth, and usually remove any bends in the blade.

			However, if the whole blade or just the teeth have been hardened, the manufacturer will probably be expecting you to dispose of the blade, and purchase a new one. Depending on the condition of the blade, there are a number of ways in which you can give your saw a second chance in life:

			Blunt teeth
			Rough-cutting If the teeth are blunt, but will still cut, you can use the saw for applications in which you don’t mind having a rough finish. Some people use a brand new saw for their best work, and then when it becomes blunt, they use it to roughly cut material such as plastic, insulation or tree branches.

			Let your saw sing! Turn your old saw into a musical instrument! There are various tutorials online that will tell you how to do this.

			A broken blade
			Even if the blade is broken, you may still be able to cut it up and re-use it. Some blades are made of top quality steel, so it seems a waste to simply throw them away.

			Try square Use the straight edge of your saw blade to make your own try square.

			Scraper An old saw blade makes a great scraper – a tool used for removing excess material from a surface such as old paint or wallpaper. Please note: you may need to attach a handle for comfort.

			Garden tools With the right equipment, an old saw blade can be transformed into another tool for use in the garden. Saw blades make great outdoor tools as it usually doesn’t matter how battered the blade is, outdoors it can have a new lease of life!
