Files are low maintenance tools. Other than keeping their teeth clean and storing them properly, there is little that needs to be done to prolong their life. | |||

The only detachable part is the handle. Should this become lost or broken, it is easy and cheap to replace. | |||

If the body of your file is broken, it should be thrown away. Broken files are not safe to use and can do more damage than good if used in a DIY project! | |||
