A pin vice is commonly used in jewellery making, where it can be used to twist wire and drill holes, and in model building, where it is also used to attach pieces together and to create detail. In addition, pin vices are used in watch repair.
Pin vices are also used to hold needle files, which are designed for precision or delicate work. Needle files do the same job as normal files but at a smaller level. The average needle file is approximately 150mm (6″) long.
Pin vices can also be used to hold cup burs which are used to file the ends of wire, commonly used in jewellery making.
