How does the scale of a metric
Main scale |
Metric vernier calipers have a main scale graduated in millimetres (mm). | ||||
Vernier scale |
The vernier scales of all metric calipers have a measuring range of 1mm (the smallest distance that can be measured using the main scale).
Metric vernier calipers have different resolutions. Some can measure to 0.05mm, whereas other can measure to 0.02mm. |
The resolution of vernier calipers varies depends upon on how the vernier scale is graduated.
The vernier scale of calipers with a resolution of 0.05mm is divided into 20 increments, each of which represents 0.05mm (1 ÷ 20 = 0.05). If a caliper has a resolution of 0.02mm, the vernier scale is divided into 50 increments, with each representing 0.02mm (1 ÷ 50 = 0.02). |
