The large pick-up tool has a neodymium magnet the same as smaller pick-up tools. The magnet however, is bigger, giving the tool a larger surface area to pick up more objects at a time.

The large pick-up tool has a neodymium magnet for attracting ferromagnetic materials. As well as having a larger surface area to pick up more objects, the magnet also has a much larger pull force than smaller pick-up tools.
Adjusting device for extension of large pick-up tool
Some large pick-up tools have adjusting devices to extend them further, although this is not a feature on all models.
There are two types of adjusting devices: sleeves and screws. The sleeve, when turned, releases the inner pole and is then turned back to lock in place. The screw release again is turned to release and lock in place the inner tube.
