Earth rammer head

The head should be heavy enough to ram the earth with its weight, yet light enough for the worker to lift.
Most heads are made of cast iron and should be smooth.
The handle, however, can come in different materials such as wood and steel. |

Are the parts detachable?
For most earth rammers, the head and handle are detachable to allow for replacements. The handle simply slots into the hole in the centre of the head. |

The handle is the part held by the user. Most handles are detachable from the head, therefore both parts can be replaced if needed.
Not all rammers allow for this though. In particular, fencing tampers rarely have detachable handles.
Some handles are harder to find than others, but a version of the wooden handle should be available from most suppliers. |
