What are DeWalt angle grinders used for?
DeWalt angle grinders are one of the most versatile types of power tool. They are ideal for tasks such as:
Grinding Metal
Cutting Stone, Tiles and Masonry
Removing Rust and Paint
Cutting Bars, Rods and Bolts

Grinding Metal
Perhaps the most well-known use for an angle grinder is grinding metal. This is done using a silicon dioxide abrasive disc, and is considered an essential tool in welding and other metalworking industries.
Cutting Stone, Tiles and Masonry
Fitted with a diamond disc, DeWalt angle grinders are capable of cutting through stone and concrete. They can also be used for cutting paving slabs down to size before they are laid.
Removing Rust and Paint
Angle grinders are particularly useful if you need to get rid of stubborn rust or paint. Although there are cheaper methods of doing this, stripping paint or rust with a DeWalt angle grinder is quicker and more efficient than, say, using a chemical solution which has to be brushed on then scraped off.
Cutting Bars, Rods and Bolts
Another common use for an angle grinder is to cut through metal bars or rusted bolts. Metal cut-off discs allow the tool to slice through steel and aluminium bars, including rebar (reinforcing bar) or metal fencing, quickly and easily.
Removing Mortar
Mortar rake attachments or diamond mortar raking wheels can be mounted on the spindle of the angle grinder to remove old mortar without damaging the existing brickwork. This is usually done as part of the process of repointing mortar joints in brick and stone walls.
Professionals often prefer to get a DeWalt mortar raking kit rather than add attachments. This has additional special features to make mortar removal quicker and safer. To find out more see: Introduction to the DeWalt Mortar Raking Kit.
Sanding
There are special sanding discs that can be installed onto a DeWalt angle grinder so that it can be used to smooth over rough edges and remove unwanted material from a workpiece.
Polishing
With the help of a buffing wheel, an angle grinder can be used to polish metal surfaces such as the bodywork of a vehicle. Professional vehicle painters, restorers and finishers tend to use specialist polishing machines – see Introduction to DeWalt Rotary Polishers to find out more.
Sharpening

Woodworking
Although traditionally associated with metalwork, when equipped with special woodworking attachments such as carving discs and wheels, DeWalt angle grinders are extremely useful for carving, sanding, shaping and polishing wood.
