Radius Gauge Application This radius gauge is an individual leaf /blade, which can be sold as part of an assorted collection. It is often used to measure existing radii on parts which have machined profiles. They are also used as a guiding template for radius drawing or scribing.
Gauging surfaces Each gauge can be used individually. There are five gauging surfaces around the edges of the tool. Surface 2 and 5 are for concave applications and 1, 3 and 4 are for convex applications. The multiple surfaces allow easier placement of the gauge against many types of work surfaces. All surfaces refer to one centrally inscribed measurement.
Radius gauge holder

Any gauge with five measuring surfaces can be used with the holder. A gauge holder may be used when radii exist in hard to reach locations. The two slots at the bottom of the holder allow gauges to be held square or tipped to one side for measuring. The holder is 100mm (4 inches) long and is used to extend the reach of a gauge so that a radius on a work piece is easier to access.

Point of tangency They can be used with a pencil or scriber to draw a radius curve onto metal. This may be carried out to find the ‘point of tangency’ which is where the curve meets the ‘tangents’ (straight lines).
Checking metal shoulder with the use of a gauge holder and gauge A gauge holder is often used to help measure a concave angle known as a shoulder. A shoulder in engineering terms is a substantial projection or abrupt change in shape or diameter designed to withstand thrust. The five measuring surface gauge is used to check not just shoulders but also the radius of tool patterns and further machine crafted work.

Five measuring surface gauge assortment

Radius Gauges L300 Gauge assortments are available ranging from 8 blades to 26 blades. Sets are usually finished in satin chrome with precision finished and extra smooth, accurate edges.

What are the advantages of the five measuring surface gauge?

Advantages of a 5 measuring surface radius gauge Each gauge has five different gauging surfaces so it is easier to position the gauge for either convex or concave applications. Gauge sets usually come with a protective case and a gauge holder. The measuring surfaces are precisely finished with smooth, accurate edge which are also resitant to rust.

What are the disadvantages of the five measuring surface gauge?

Disadvantages of a 5 measuring surface radius gauge The disadvantage of this type of gauge is that individual gauges are easily lost if not kept in their plastic case. It may be more time consuming to switch between gauges and fix to a radius gauge holder.
