Making a fridge magnet with flexible magnetic tape and a photograph Flexible magnetic tape can be attached to both ferromagnetic materials and non-ferromagnetic materials. To do this you will need to do the following:
Rolling out flexible magnetic tape to the right length

Step 1 – Measure flexible magnetic tape

Roll out the flexible magnetic tape until you have the required amount.

Cutting a piece of flexible magnetic tape with a pair of scissors

Step 2 – Cut flexible magnetic tape

The best way to cut flexible magnetic tape to the required size is using a pair of scissors.

Pre-scored flexible magnetic tape Some rolls of flexible magnetic tape do not need to be cut as they come scored at regular intervals along the magnet which allows each piece to be pulled off. This makes the tape quick to use, however it is only useful if you are using a single sized piece of flexible magnetic tape.
Attaching a piece of cut flexible magnetic tape with no adhesive to a metal pillar

Step 3 – Attach flexible magnetic tape

If the flexible magnetic tape has a laminated magnetic face then you will need to place the piece of magnetic tape directly over the area of ferromagnetic material. The flexible magnetic tape will then attach itself to the ferromagnetic surface.

Peeling backing tape off flexible magnetic tape with labelled adhesive On the other hand, if your flexible magnetic tape has an adhesive backing, you will need to peel off the backing tape to attach it to a non-ferromagnetic material.
