Dull blades need to be replaced Once a blade has become dull it will need replacing. The method used to remove a blade depends on the blade securing mechanism which a craft knife uses. For more information on the different types of blade securing mechanisms, see What are the parts of a craft knife?
How to replace the blade on a craft knife with a collet The following instructions detail how to remove a blade and insert a new one on a craft knife with a collet.
To open the collet twist the collar to the left

Step 1 – Open collet

To release the blade, the collet which secures it will need to be opened. Twist the collar to the left (with the blade away from you) in order to open the collet and loosen the blade.

Remove the dull blade from the handle

Step 2 – Remove blade

Carefully remove the dull blade from the handle and dispose of it.

Insert a new blade into the handle

Step 3 – Insert new blade

Insert a new blade into the slot at the end of the handle.

Close the collet by twisting the collar to the right

Step 4 – Lock handle

Rotate the knurled collar to the right in order to close the collet. This will fasten the new blade securely within the handle.

Your craft knife is now ready to use Once the blade has been replaced, your craft knife will be like new and ready to use.
