As well as measuring the moisture content, some moisture meters may have a setting to test temperature. This can be in degrees Celsius, degrees Fahrenheit, or both, and may have a range of between 0 and 40 degrees Celsius.
If a moisture meter does have a thermometer, this can work in a couple of different ways: the temperature can be automatically displayed on the screen, alongside the moisture reading, or the set / mode button can be used to select the temperature setting, and display the result.
Thermometers are found mostly on digital pin-type moisture meters.
Temperature is important to the moisture content because it affects relative humidity, which in turn affects moisture content. This is especially true when measuring wood as its moisture content changes with the environment.
However, the effects are generally minimal and there is no set rule with how you apply a temperature reading to the moisture reading, it is just something the user needs to be aware of for discrepancies.
There are some moisture meters which automatically adjust the moisture reading according to temperature. However these are not widely available and are generally more expensive.
