The rasp may look different depending on the type of multi-tool rasp you have. The rasp on a plasterboard (jab) saw multi-tool rasp is a flat metal blade with holes cut into it, while the rasp on a bottle opener multi-tool rasp is part of the body of the tool and has slotted holes.
When folded out of the handle the saw or rasp locks into position in line with the handle.
Handle
The handle of a plasterboard (jab) saw and rasp is described as being ergonomic and bi-material, which means it’s made of plastic and TPR (thermoplastic rubber). Both the plasterboard saw and rasp fold back into the handle of the tool, reducing the space it takes up in a tool box and preventing you catching your hand on the saw blade.
Saw
The plasterboard (jab) saw is used to cut out sections of plasterboard around light or plug sockets, or to fit the plasterboard sheet to obstructions or contours within a room.
Release button
The release button is pressed to release the saw or rasp from the locked position to fold them back into, or out of the handle.
Protective guide
The protective guide serves the same function as guide rails on a pocket dry wall rasp. They form part of the tool’s body, sitting either side of the rasp to help guide it along the plasterboard and prevent the user catching their fingers on the edge of the plasterboard or the teeth of the rasp.
Bottle opener
The bottle opener at the end of the tool can be used to open bottles after a job well done.
Panel lifter
The panel lifter is a wedge lever that is operated with your foot to lift individual sheets a few centimetres for accurate positioning when fixing plasterboard to a wall. This frees your hands for aligning the plasterboard.
