Pocket rasps may be held in slightly different ways depending on the type of pocket rasp you are using and what position you find most comfortable.
How to hold a die-cast pocket rasp
The domed back section of the rasp’s body should rest in the palm of your hand while your index and middle fingers should sit on the flat front part of the rasp.
Use your remaining fingers to grip one side of the rasp’s body and your thumb to grip the other.
Some people prefer to hold pocket rasps with all their fingers on one side of the body and their thumb on the other, instead of placing their index and middle fingers on the flat front part of the rasp’s body.

Pocket dry wall rasps with a plastic body/handle and a rubber grip are best held in your dominant hand as you would hold a cordless phone.
