The parts of a cove mitre are: Left face, right face, wall edge, crease, locating notches or lip

Wall edge

The wall edge of a cove mitre sits on the wall edge of the coving. The wall edge of a coving mitre is the edge that sits on the wall edge of the coving. On a curved cove mitre the wall edge has a lip that is used to hold it in place on the coving.
You should stand with the wall edge of the cove mitre and coving nearest to you when working out what cut to make. You should stand with the wall edge of the coving and coving mitre nearest to you when determining what mitre cut you need.

Lip

The lip found on some cove mitres serves the same purpose as the locating notches on others. It holds the cove mitre in place on the coving's wall edge. Only found on curved plastic cove mitres, the lip performs the same role as the locating notches on other cove mitres.
