The long handle gives the user more leverage and grip while removing the oil filter. The handle also contains the ratchet mechanism inside with a lock and unlock switch on the bottom.
Pad
The pad is located on the end of the handle with a curved face to enable it to fit around the cylindrical surface of an oil filter comfortably.
Automatic oil filter wrench strap
The strap will be placed over the oil filter and tightened to secure the grip while removing.
Automatic oil filter wrench switch
The switch can be placed in a lock or unlock position. Placing the switch to unlock will enable the strap to be loosened and placing the switch in the lock position will automatically tighten the strap.
Automatic oil filter wrench ratchet mechanism
The ratchet mechanism is spring loaded. The steel strap would be coiled up inside a housing within the handle (like a spring on a grandfather clock). When the strap is pulled out, it uncoils, then when the switch is placed in the lock position, it coils back up pulling the strap back in the housing.
What sizes do automatic oil filter wrenches come in?
The size of the oil filter that can be removed is directly related to the size of the oil filter wrench. Automatic oil filter wrenches usually fit filters with a diameter of between 66 and 105mm (2½ and 4 inches approx.)
