Telescopic inspection mirror Telescopic inspection mirrors come in varying shapes and sizes. The term ‘telescopic’ refers to the extending telescopic section.
Swivel ball joint The mirror is attached by a swivel ball joint which allows it to be rotated 360 degrees.

What sizes are they available in?

Different length of inspection mirror Telescopic inspection mirrors are available in a number of different sizes, which also extend to varying lengths.

The length of the tool unextended ranges from 12.5cm (5″) to 35cm (13.7″). Once extended, the length of the tool ranges from 33cm (13″) to 87cm (34.2″).

What shapes are available?

Different shape mirror head The telescopic inspection mirror is available with either a round, oval or square mirror head. These themselves can come in varying sizes.

The shape of the mirror does not really affect the tool’s use and is largely down to personal preference. However, the oval and round mirror heads tend to be smaller than square ones so may be more practical when looking in smaller areas.

Round mirror diameter

Round mirror heads

Round mirror heads come in a number of sizes and are measured by their diameter (across the centre of the mirror). The diameter ranges from 31mm (12.2″) to 57mm (22.4″).

Square mirror length & width

Square mirror heads

Square mirror heads are measured width by length. The smallest square mirror head available is 42mm (1.6″) x 65mm (2.5″) and the largest is 370mm (14.5″) x 765mm (30″).

Wonkee donkee says despite being called a square mirror the mirror shape is actually rectangular!
Oval mirror head size

Oval mirror heads

Oval-shaped mirror heads are less common compared to other shapes and are often used when examining guitars because they are small and thin, allowing them to fit easily around the guitar strings. They only come in one head size: 25mm (1″) x 50mm (2″).

LED lights

Inspection mirror with LED lights Some telescopic inspection mirrors are fitted with one or multiple LED lights to further aid inspection in dark areas. The lights can be on or near the mirror head and are often powered by button cell batteries.
Inspection mirror lights; one with on/off switch and one with light at the end of the mirror shaft Lights on the mirror head are usually controlled using an on/off switch on the back of the mirror head. If the light switch is on the back of the mirror head, the light needs to be turned on before the mirror is extended and put into position. Inspection mirrors with an LED light at the end of the shaft are usually turned on by twisting the shaft anti-clockwise.

Are there any attachments available?

Inspection mirror with magnetic head The telescoping inspection mirror is available with either a permanently attached or detachable magnetic pick-up head. This tool allows you to collect objects providing they are made from a ferromagnetic material.
Wonkee Donkee says Materials that are magnetic must contain a ferromagnetic element these elements are; iron, nickel, cobalt and gadolinium
