From time to time, you may need to replace your string line as it may become knotted or even snap. If this does happen, then you may still have plenty of string to use, so don’t rush out and buy a replacement straight away. Check to see if the remainder of your string is of a usable length and quality, and simply reattach the hook to the end.
If, however, your string line is severely knotted, tangled, or too short to be of practical use, then you can purchase a replacement online or in shops. Follow the guide below to replace a chalk line string.
You will need to open the box to gain access to the string line and reel inside. This may require you to unscrew the box and take it apart. Be careful that any remaining chalk inside the box doesn’t spill out everywhere.
Step 2 – Remove string line and reel
Take out the reel and string line. You will have to remove the hook from the end of the string to do this. Unravel the old string line from the reel and discard if unwanted.
Step 3 – Attach new string line
Tie one end of your new string line to the reel and ravel the excess string around it. Slip the other end of the string line through the end of the chalk box and reattach the hook.
Step 4 – Replace reel and close box
Once your new string line is in place around the reel and has been fed through the chalk box, replace the reel on its axis and close the box.
