The first thing you want to do is decide which colour chalk you are going to use. Blue is considered a temporary, all-purpose colour, whereas red is more permanent, and white is ideal for indoor use.
Step 2 – Snip off cap
Using a pair of scissors or a utility knife, snip the top off the cap of your chalk bottle.
Step 3 – Pull out string
Pull out approximately 4 metres (12 feet) of string from the chalk line.
Step 4 – Open door
Open the little sliding door in the chalk line box.
If your chalk box doesn’t have a sliding door, there should be another opening, usually at the top of the box. You may need to unscrew the cap and remove a piece of felt to do this.
Step 5 – Fill with chalk
Insert the cut tip of the chalk bottle into the open door and squeeze the bottle. This will force chalk in the reel. Fill it about half full.
Step 6 – Wind in string
Close the sliding door and wind in the string using the crank reel. This will help coat the the string in chalk.
Step 7 – Repeat and fill with more chalk
Repeat this process a few times by pulling out the string again, filling with more chalk and winding the string back in. Do not fill the box completely.
