Shoe knife maintenance and care |
If your shoe knife has a wooden handle, wipe down the whole knife with a light oil such as linseed oil or liquid paraffin every few weeks. This will stop the handle from drying out and splitting, protect the blade from corrosion and improve its appearance.
Store the shoe knife in a dry place when not in use, and keep it in a sheath if possible. If you leave it loose in a drawer or toolbox the blade could get knocked around and become chipped or blunted.
Sharpen your shoe knife regularly, particularly if you use it for difficult jobs such as cutting leather. Regular sharpening will keep it in pristine condition.
