This is a standard pencil sharpener for sharpening standard-shaped pencils. They are available in many different styles, colours, and materials, but all serve the same purpose.
Double pencil sharpener
A double pencil sharpener has two tapered holes and two blades which gives it the ability to sharpen large and standard sized pencils.
Carpenter’s pencil sharpener
The carpenter’s pencil sharpener has a specially designed, rectangular, tapered hole which allows it to sharpen rectangular-shaped carpenter’s pencils.
A carpenter’s pencil sharpener is similar to a standard pencil sharpener except that it is designed to accept the larger size of the carpenter’s pencil and also incorporates a freely rotating guide.
Note: some sharpeners even incorporate an emery board for fine-point sharpening.
All-purpose sharpener
The all-purpose sharpener has a large-diameter, tapered hole that allows it to sharpen carpenter’s pencils and crayons as well.
Mechanical sharpener
There are mechanical sharpeners available which have the ability to sharpen a variety of different sized pencils. These, however, may not be able to sharpen rectangular carpenter’s pencils, so it’s worth checking before you purchase one of these.
Pro-Sharp pencil sharpener
This is the world’s first pencil sharpener that can be used in conjunction with a power drill. It is for sharpening standard sized pencils.
It has a universal hexagonal shank that can be used in any drill chuck or ¼ inch (6.5mm) quick-change system.
When you have secured the sharpener in the drill’s chuck you can insert your pencil into the sharpener and sharpen it at the touch of a button.
