Crayons are often made with cone-shaped tips. They will make thick, waxy lines on nearly any surface and are ideal for marking rough, highly-visible lines or colouring in larger areas of a workpiece. Children’s crayons are often found with this kind of tip.
Pointed tip
Crayons designed for more practical uses such as a builder’s or carpenter’s crayon tend to have a slightly finer, more pointed tip to promote accuracy. However, due to the nature of a crayon’s soft material, even a fine tip will be quickly dulled after a few uses unless sharpened. Crayons can be sharpened with a pencil sharpener providing the hole is big enough to accept the crayon.
