This is an example of using a straightedge tool to assist in the process of cutting vinyl tile flooring.
Tools you will need:
Lino knife
A rule, engineer’s square or combination square
A carpenter’s pencil
Step 1 – Mark vinyl tiles
Before using the lino knife, measure and mark the area of the tile that you want to remove.
Use the pencil and a straight edge tool to mark the tile.
Step 2 – Support vinyl tiles
Place the marked vinyl tile(s) you are going to cut on to an old piece of board that’s bigger than the area of the tile.
Step 3 – Hold lino knife
Hold the knife horizontally with your dominant hand. Wrap your palm around the handle with your thumb or index finger resting on top of the handle.
Step 4 – Position knife
Position the blade of the marking knife on the vinyl, with the tip of the blade at the beginning of the line you marked.
Step 5 – Scoring
Push the tip of the blade into the vinyl so it makes an incision. Carefully run the knife all the way along the surface of the vinyl to score, using the straightedged tool as a guide.
