Cutting vinyl sheet only requires a lino knife. When laying vinyl sheet, you do not need to measure and mark like cutting vinyl tiles.
The vinyl sheet is placed and cut in the very position that it is being laid. This allows the user to take into account all the different shapes they will be cutting around, including door frames, corners, bath panels, basins, toilets and much more.
Step 1 – Place vinyl sheet
Push the linoleum flooring or carpet being fitted into the corners where the floor meets the wall. This will form corners in the lino or carpet for you to use as a guide to cut.
Step 2 – Hold lino knife
Hold the knife with your dominant hand. Wrap your palm around the handle with your thumb or index finger resting on top of the handle.
Step 3 – Place knife
Position the tip of the blade at the beginning of the line you want to cut.
Step 4 – Cut material
Run the blade carefully along the material using the corners formed as a guide.
When it comes to cutting around shaped areas, for example a bath, you will need to push the vinyl sheet against the bath panel and find the fold in the vinyl which connects the floor to the bath. The fold will then be used as a guide so you can cut the vinyl accordingly to allow it to fit around the bath.
