Before using a vee block, you should check its accuracy. Constant use with the same cylindrical workpieces is likely to affect the sides of the vee channel. In addition, if the block has become rusted, the four sides and two ends of the tool may be no longer truly parallel or square to one another.
Look and feel for any dents, scratches or burrs that might affect the block’s ability to stand solidly in a vice.
If you notice that your vee block is inaccurate, you will need to regrind the faces of the vee channel until they are smooth. This will improve the accuracy of the tool.
Handling
Vee blocks are very heavy and have sharp corners, so should be handled with care.
Cleaning
Before use, you should clean your vee blocks to remove any unwanted material that may affect their accuracy.
Storage
Most vee blocks are manufactured with a protective storage case in which you should keep your tool when it is not in use. If your vee block does not come with a storage case, you should keep it somewhere cool and dry to protect it from moisture that could cause rust.
