Door and board lifters use leverage to raise things like plasterboard and doors to a position where they can be fitted, while keeping both hands free. This guide is for lifting doors into position, but the same procedure applies to lifting sheets of plasterboard and other panels.
Step 1 – Position lifter
Slide the lift shelf of the door and board lifter underneath the door. Ensure the door is located correctly on the shelf. Often the door will balance better if the lifter is placed in the middle of the edge, but you can position it wherever you find a comfortable balance of weight.
Step 2 – Raise door
Use your foot to push down on the foot pad and raise the lift shelf to the required height, supporting the door with your hands. Some lifters will allow you to swivel or roll the door into the precise place it’s needed. Others will require you to have positioned it roughly in place before lifting, as they need to be adjusted by hand.
Step 3 – Fit door
Once the door has been raised to where you need it, you’ll need to hold it in place by keeping your foot steady, unless you have a lifter which can clamp or lock in a set position. Now you can secure the door in place using your free hands.
