There are so many manufacturers of diagonal cutting pliers, each with multiple models, that there are a number of additional features the tools can have.
Deburring ridges
Some diagonal cutting pliers have deburring ridges on the outside edges of the jaws. They are used for smoothing the cut edges of metal pipes.
Electrical insulation
Some diagonal cutting pliers are electrically insulated so they are safe to use on electrical and electronic equipment. If they bear the ‘VDE’ mark they comply with European standards and are safe to use on live wires up to 1000 volts AC (alternating current), making them the choice of electricians.
Temperature toleration
Some designs are made to tolerate extreme temperatures from -40 degrees Celsius to +70 degrees Celsius.
Spring
Some diagonal cutting pliers designs have a spring mechanism which opens the handles automatically (and therefore the jaws). This makes it easier to use the pliers one-handed.
A few spring mechanisms can be folded away if you don’t want to use them all the time or if you want to store the pliers closed.
Insulation strippers
Some diagonal cutting pliers have an additional section on the blades for stripping electrical insulation from wires.
