Caulkers vs Trowels and Scrapers

Caulkers vs. trowels and scrapers

Shop for Caulkers

C-3-1 Caulker, trowel and scraper, caulking tools, plastering tools Some people use trowels and scrapers for caulking tasks.
C-3-2 Cartoon plasterer/decorator, cartoon plasterer A caulker is the traditional tool for spreading, filling and smoothing but some decorators favour the trowel.
C-3-3 Plastering with a trowel, windowsill, plaster, corner trowel A trowel works just as well as a caulker but it’s all down to the decorator’s personal preference.

It is worth noting that some trowels may not be as flexible as caulkers. Less flexibility may result in difficulty when feathering (blending in).

C-3-4 Scraper, spreading caulk with a scraper
A scraper is a little less flexible than the caulker but has the advantage of being able to fit into those tight spaces.

Scrapers are ideally used for smaller, more intricate jobs where a larger caulker or trowel would not be suitable.
