Your fingers should support the blade from behind and your thumb should rest on the top of the handle. (You don’t have to wear gloves).
Step 2 – Scoop up filler
Scoop up the mixed filler from your bucket by using a scraper or trowel.
Step 3 – Apply filler to blade
Apply this directly on to the blade of the caulker.
Start with a small amount (a scraper’s worth) and start filling in your gaps. If you have a large area to cover don’t be afraid to get stuck in and use more filler.
Step 4 – Hold caulker at 45 degree angle
Place the filler applied caulker on the surface of the wall, resting the flat edge directly on and across the surface at a 45 degree angle.
Step 5 – Slide caulker up
As you slide the caulker up against the wall, slowly close your 45 degree angle so that you end your stroke with the leading edge nearer to the wall, covering the minor scratches and surface discrepancies as you go.
If there are any pieces of grit, remove them now and smooth over. This method should be done with a smooth and continuous flow.
Step 6 – Clean caulker after use
After you have succeeded in this, take your scraper and scrape off any filler material from your caulker.
Wipe clean with water and a sponge.
Step 7 – Blend in edges
Lastly, use the clean caulker to feather (blend in) the edges of the filler on to and over the smooth area of your surface. Take your time with this. The filler won’t set immediately and the smoother your finish the better it will look!
Remember, a good-quality caulker should have a smooth and flexible blade, free from dents and markings.
Please note: The caulker blade may warp if exposed to high temperatures, so store it out of direct sunlight.
