How to scribe a parallel line using a jenny caliper?

Jenny calipers are used to take accurate measurements.

Before beginning trying to scribe a parallel line using a jenny caliper it is important to make sure that you have everything you need. To follow our step-by-step guide you will need a ruler, a jenny caliper and the workpiece that you wish to measure.

Step 1 - Set caliper to required distance

Place the curved leg of the jenny caliper on the edge of the ruler so that the tip is lined up with the zero mark.

Widen the legs of the caliper until the locating lug at the end of the straight leg reaches the desired measurement on the ruler.

Step 2 - Position caliper on edge of object

Place the straight leg of the caliper along the edge of the object to be marked.

Set the adjustment point on the object’s surface.

Step 3 - Move caliper along edge

Drag the straight leg of the caliper along the edge of the object. As you do this, the pointed tip of the other leg will scratch a line onto the object.
