No, there aren’t different types of tank connector tool. This tool is unique insomuch that it has been designed specifically to overcome the awkward task of fitting and removing tank connectors to large cold water tanks. It is a very specific tool for a very specific job.Many manufacturers stock this tool but it is the only one of its kind (though it does come in different sizes).
Prior to the invention of this tool, a plumber would have had to either reach over into the water tank and hold the the connector in place whilst tightening the nut from the external side (which is a big stretch!), or have another person with a second pair of hands to hold it securely for you.
If you don’t have one of these tools then you’ll have to use a combination of grips and a spanner to tighten up your connector (if you can reach!). Having an extra pair of hands would be a great help too!
