Both sockets and socket formed joints require soldering to secure them.
Soldering is either soft or hard – the difference is the temperature at which the chosen solder melts. Generally, alloys which melt below 400°C (approximately) are known as soft solder. Silver solder and brazing (bronze solder), which melt above 400°C (approximately) and require a flame, are known as hard solder.
Both soft or hard soldering can be used for plumbing applications, but soft solder is more widely available. |
