Measuring slate for cutting with guillotine

Step 1 – Mark slate

Place the slate tile on a flat surface or supported at an angle, using a ruler or tape measure, measure out your cut. Draw a line with a pen or pencil along the ruler or tape measure to create a cut line.

Step 2 – Position slate

Place the slate tile onto the base of the slate cutter, with the handle wide open and position the cut line directly under the blade. Push the edge of the slate forward as far as it will go.

Step 3 – Cut slate

Hold the handle of the cutter blade and push it downward with firm pressure, using a slow, even stroke.

Continue pushing down until the blade cuts through the slate tile by around 50 to 76mm at a time.

Step 4 – Continue cutting

Raise the blade again and push the slate forward until it stops. Push the handle down again to cut through the next section of slate tile. Continue cutting and pushing the slate forward until you have cut all the way through it.
