All random-orbit sanders need a power source – either battery or mains power.
The power supply drives the motor housed inside the body of the tool.
The motor rotates the sanding pad to which the sanding disc is affixed.
As it rotates, the sanding pad also moves orbitally. This dual action makes for more efficient sanding.
The sanding disc never travels the same path repeatedly and, therefore, gives a much smoother finish whilst lessening the chances of leaving unwanted swirl marks.
