There are several different types of metal frame pliers, all with slightly different features.
Section setting pliers
Section setting pliers are double-handed and are used to set C studs and U track.
They have a typical capacity of 1mm + 1mm.
On these types of pliers, the jaw in on the underside of the body. When in the punching position, the pliers will be at a 90 degree angle to the metal stud wall.
There will need to be sufficient room to insert and operate the pliers.
Universal section setting pliers
Universal section setting pliers are also double-handed and used to set C studs and U track. They have a typical capacity of 1mm + 1mm.
On these types, the jaws are on the end (or nose) of the plier.
Less space is required to operate the pliers because of the offset head and straight handles.
Left or right facing studs may be set by simply turning the pliers over.
The pliers can be used close to an adjacent wall
Limited access section setting pliers
Limited access section setting pliers are double-handed and used to set C studs and U track. They have a typical capacity of 0.8mm + 0.8mm.
These pliers have been designed for use on metal stud walls built close to an existing wall.

…and straight handles with the jaw on the end (or nose) of the pliers.
Left or right facing studs may be set by simply turning the pliers over.
The design allows them to be used as close to an adjacent wall as possible.
Single-handed section setting pliers
Single-handed section setting pliers are used to set C studs and U track. They have a typical capacity of 1mm + 1mm.
On these types, the jaw is on the underside of the body.
When in the punching position, the pliers will be at a 90 degree angle to the metal stud wall. There will need to be sufficient room to insert and operate the plier.
