Line blocks are usually made from a single piece of material, so they don’t have parts as such, but they do have some key features that are explained below.
90 degree angle
All line blocks are roughly “L” shaped and have a internal 90-degree angle so that you can easily fit them to the corner of a brick.
Groove for brick line
Line blocks have a groove in them so that you can attach a brick line to it. The brick line can be knotted at its end and inserted into the groove so that it remains secure when pulled taut.
Mason’s mate
Lipped edges
A mason’s mate line block has lipped edges at the top of its 90-degree angle that allow it to sit on the top corner of a brick.
Line hooks
The hooks on a mason’s mate line block are there so that you can attach and secure the brick line. Wrapping a little of the excess brick line around the hooks will ensure that the line remains taut.
Size
Although there are different models of line blocks, they are all roughly the same size, about 4″ x 2″ (10cm x 5cm).
