Sheaths are most frequently made of leather and sewn and riveted together. Sheaths are usually sold with the hacking knife they are designed to hold. However, you may occasionally see them sold separately.
They have two slots cut at the top which enable them to attach to a belt. Sheaths give you a safe place to store your hacking knife allowing you to use both hands. This can be particularly useful when working up a ladder or on scaffolding.
Some hacking knives are sold with lockable sheaths that lock onto the knife’s handle, ensuring the hacking knife cannot accidentally fall out. This type of sheath is usually made of plastic.
