The shaft of a drain and chimney rod is made from the following materials: polypropylene, nylon, cane or steel. The opposing ends of the rod will have a male joint and a female joint to enable the rods to be connected together.
Drain rod and chimney rod joints
There are many different types of joint such as the universal joint, button joint, and lockfast joint.
Male joint
Each half of a pair of matching joints or connectors is conventionally given the name of “male” or “female”. The male connector is inserted into the female connector in order to join the two rods together.
Female joint
The “female” joint or connector is a receptacle that receives and holds the “male” connector.
