Tarpaulins can deteriorate for a wide variety of reasons. This can be through extended use, damage or prolonged exposure to the weather. | |||

Ultraviolet (UV) rays from the sun can cause tarpaulins to deteriorate over time.
Many tarpaulins will be protected with a “UV Inhibitor”, which is designed to extend their lifespan. |

Will the eyelets rust? |

Due to the fact that iron and steel rust, eyelets may be made from brass or aluminium to lessen the effects of corrosion. | |||

Brass corrodes slower than aluminium, however when aluminium corrodes, it gains a layer of aluminium oxide, which protects it from continued corrosion. | |||

Rustproof eyelets can also be purchased which are simply coated with a brass layer. | |||
