Taping knife handles come in a variety of materials, including wood, plastic and rubber.
Taping knife wooden handles
Wooden handles are traditional and perhaps the most aesthetically pleasing to use. They are both comfortable and durable. They may be a little more expensive but what is a few extra pence for a quality piece?
If you are carrying these on a tool belt it’s worth mentioning that they are a little heavier than their plastic or rubber counterparts.
Taping knife plastic handles
Plastic handles are the cheapest to buy and will serve their purpose well. They may be less comfortable than a wooden or rubber handle but many hard plastics are just as durable.
Taping knife rubber handles
Designed specifically to give the user maximum comfort whilst remaining robust, rubber handles have the best of both worlds.
A better grip gives you greater control of your tool, especially for jobs such as feathering (blending-in) where maximum attention to detail is required.
Taping knife offset handles
An offset handle is a raised handle which allows clearance for the fingers.
The gap between the raised handle and the blade reduces the risk of marking your wall or workpiece with your fingers. It also allows you to get the blade virtually flat against the wall, an angle critical for a smooth finish.
Taping knife soft touch handles
Soft touch handles give you the benefits of a more comfort and better grip. They are typically made from soft rubber.
Taping knife long handles
Long handled taping knives are particularly useful in reaching high ceilings and awkward spaces without having to use a stepladder.
The disadvantages is that this means extra weight to carry around with you, and a handle that does not easily fit into a tool belt.
Long handled taping knives come in a variety of lengths and materials. Hardwood handles are the most common, although metal and plastic varieties are available.
Long handles can be found in lengths anywhere between 254mm – 609mm (10 inches – 24 inches)
