Mark on your work the point at which you want the centre of your hole to be.
Step 2 – Set distance between pilot drill and blade
Use a ruler to set the distance between the pilot drill and the cutting point of the blade. This distance should be equal to the radius of the circular hole you want to cut.
For example, if you are looking to cut a circle with a diameter of 70mm (2.7in), this distance will be 35mm (1.3in).
70 ÷ 2 = 35
Step 3 – Install tank cutter in drill
Install your tank cutter into the chuck of your drill.
Step 4 – Set drill speed
Set your drill to the slowest possible speed.
Step 5 – Cut test hole
Turn on your drill.
Approach the work as slowly as you can and, whilst applying pressure with the drill, cut a test hole in a piece of scrap material.
When you are comfortable using your tank cutter, position the pilot drill bit on the centre mark you made earlier and repeat this process to cut your real hole.
