How to use a pocket knife?

		Using a pocket knife couldn’t be simpler – and to make things even easier, Wonkee Donkee has compiled the following guide on how to use a pocket knife effectively.

		Step 1 – Opening or extending your pocket knife First, you will need to open or extend your pocket knife’s blade. If you’re using a folding pocket knife, hold the handle tightly and use your thumb to push upwards on the flipper. This will rotate the blade around the pivot, opening the knife.

		If using a retractable pocket knife, press down on the slider and push forward until the blade is fully extended (don’t worry – the slider won’t go any further than this).

		Step 2 – Holding your pocket knife correctly Make sure you hold your pocket knife on the handle section only, with the blade pointing away from you and anyone else nearby.

		Step 3 – Making your cuts You should always cut using consistent motions in the same direction, making sure to slice away from your body, not towards it. If the task at hand requires a ‘pulling’ cutting motion, simply stand to the side, away from the direction of the cut. Apply downward, continuous pressure into the material being cut.

		Step 4 – Close or retract pocket knife Once your cut is completed, close your pocket knife. To close a folding pocket knife, hold the handle firmly in the tips of your fingers and the blade on the non-sharp outside edge, applying pressure to snap it back into the blade housing in the handle.

		To retract a retractable pocket knife’s blade, press down on the slider and pull it backward until it will go no further.
