Have your hand grips fallen apart through use or maybe your manual post-hole auger never had any and you would like to add them?
If you need to, remove the old, worn-out handles. They may slide off the end of the handle or you may need to cut them away with a sharp knife.
You can purchase hand grips of your choice to suit the size of your hands and the diameter of your auger’s handle.
Most hand grips can be stretched and slid onto the handle. If you are struggling, try heating the hand grips in hot water. The heat softens the rubber and makes it easier to stretch them. Don’t be tempted to use a lubricant to fit hand grips as they will just slide off again!
You can leave them unfixed so that you can move them to different positions on the handle or you can fix them in place. You can use super glue to do this…
…or wrap the handle ends in self-amalgamating (self-binding) tape before you fit the hand grips. The tape is made of rubber which will grip the hand grips and stop them from slipping and, in some cases, bind to the hand grip if it is made from a compatible rubber or foam material.
