red square power horseshoe magnet with labelled north and south pole

A power horseshoe magnet is the largest and strongest horseshoe magnet available. It is known for its stability, as well as corrosion and temperature resistance due to the variety of alnico used in production. For information on alnico see page What are magnets made of?

  Horseshoe magnet retrieving ferromagnetic material

They are used for retrieving ferromagnetic materials from hot and corrosive liquids. For example, they can be used in salt baths and plating vats.

Magnetic field of a red pocket horseshoe magnet

Power horseshoe magnets, due to their strength, are useful magnets where large air gaps (big distances between the ferromagnetic material and the magnet) are involved. This is because their magnetic field lines have the ability to reach further than other magnets due to the overall strength of the power horseshoe magnet, therefore they can still attract ferromagnetic materials over large distances.
