There are five different types of horseshoe magnet: button, pocket, bridge, power, and channel. These all come in a wide variety of different shapes and sizes, but their basic characteristics stay the same e.g. the magnetic poles on the same level with an air gap keeping them apart.
Button horseshoe magnet
A button horseshoe magnet is a cylindrical version of a traditional horseshoe magnet where the two magnetic poles, separated by an air gap, are placed on one end of the cylinder.
Pocket horseshoe magnet
A pocket horseshoe magnet is a small traditionally-shaped horseshoe magnet that is small enough to fit in your pocket.
Bridge horseshoe magnet
A bridge horseshoe magnet is in the shape of a bridge with a small gap between the two magnetic poles. It is also thicker than the other varieties of horseshoe magnet.
Power horseshoe magnet
A power horseshoe magnet is the strongest variety of horseshoe magnet and is generally used for picking up ferromagnetic materials in high temperatures.
Channel horseshoe magnet
A channel horseshoe magnet has the longest length available and is used in production lines of granular materials, for example picking out ferromagnetic materials from sugar.
