How much should a fork weigh?

Make sure the fork you choose is not too heavy Generally, the weight of a fork will range from 1.5 to 3kg (3lb to 6.5lb). The size of the tines and the length of the shaft combined with the materials that the tines and shaft are made from will all contribute to a fork’s overall weight. A large bag of sugar weighs one kilogram.  Imagine holding a fork the equivalent of three large bags of sugar before you’ve even used it to dig your garden!

Match the weight of the fork to your frame

Match the weight of the fork to your frame So we don’t need to tell you that the weight of the fork is important! A fork that is too heavy is unproductive weight and will increase energy expenditure, hence reducing performance.
A border fork is up to 25% lighter to use than a standard digging fork. For example, a border fork is up to 25% lighter to use than a standard digging fork. Alternatively, look for a fork with a narrower head and a shorter shaft made from wood. These lightweight forks won’t wear you out as much as heavier forks during prolonged periods of digging.
