Here are some things to consider when buying an edging iron:
The blades are made from either carbon or stainless steel but, in use, there is minimal difference between the two. Stainless steel may provide a slightly smoother entry to the ground.
Stainless steel models cost more than the carbon variety but may last longer as they are more corrosion resistant.
A feature that can improve an edging iron, but is not essential, is soft grip or rubber coated handles. These may be more comfortable to hold and can protect the tool from some wear and tear.
The connection between the blade and the handle is better if it is wider. Many models taper in at this point, and so may be weaker and not as long-lasting, especially if you lever with the edging iron.
