Brick tongs are tools that enable users to single-handedly carry a number of bricks or blocks in one go.
The brick tongs act as a clamp when the handle is lifted, causing the jaws of the clamp to close and hold bricks or blocks in place using a cantilever action.
Most brick tongs have arms of an adjustable length and can carry between 6-10 bricks, with some designs carrying up to 11 bricks.
What is the cantilever action?
Cantilevers can be found in construction, most commonly bridges, balconies and the wings of aircraft.
A cantilever is when one end is fixed or anchored and the other end is free. The fixed end of the tongs allow the bricks to be pushed against it by the free end, acting as a clamp to support the load being carried.
