A rivet is a permanent fastener that consists of a head and a cylindrical body.
Two types of rivet are available – solid rivets and blind (pop) rivets.
Solid rivets are so called because they are solid throughout, providing them with greater strength.
Blind rivets allow fastening when materials can only be reached from a single side. The name blind rivet comes from the fact that, unlike solid rivets, they can be inserted and fully installed in a joint from one side of the work, ‘blind’ to the opposite side.
Rivets are used to join together individual pieces of material – usually metal, but sometimes tough plastic or other hard materials.
They are suitable for use by professionals and DIYers.
Rivets are available with different features that make them suitable for specific applications, including the shape of the head and the material they are made from.
